Kasteel Helmond

Day of the castle

On Whit Monday, Monday 20 May, it is the national Day of the Castle. You can visit the centuries-old city castle in the middle of the city of Helmond with no less than half a discount on your entrance ticket! The castle is open on Whit Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can buy your ticket online via the button on this page, or at the castle counter.

This year we invite you to ‘At the Table’ with us and discover the rich history of the castle.

Come hear the play

In the attractive courtyard you can watch a short play in Dutch by our enthusiastic castle actors several times during the day. They talk about the castle and the theme ‘At the Table’.

Castle guides

Our guides are ready to welcome you during your walk through the castle. You can ask them anything you want! The castle guides know so much about the almost 700-year-old castle story of the largest square moated castle in the Netherlands.

Search & play

We offer various treasure hunts for young adventurous visitors, where you look for the secrets of the castle. There are also castle games where you can have fun to your heart’s content. They are located in the courtyard, and you can play games in the cellars. For example, you will learn what a lord of the castle eats and what he wears.

In the attic

Especially during Castle Day you can poke around the centuries-old and authentic castle attic. Of course, this must be done under supervision, as the attic is very old and you can only go there if you have good mobility.

Lucas Gassel’s workshop

In the temporary exhibition The Workshop of Lucas Gassel you can learn by doing yourself, and see in an active way how the master of the landscape, Lucas Gassel, painted. This sixteenth-century master painter spent part of his younger years in Helmond, later moving to Antwerp and Brussels, as did many of his painting contemporaries. In the Lucas Gassel tower in the Cortenbach castle hall a little further away, you can admire our purchase from Gassel: Landscape with Abraham’s sacrifice.
